Auberge La Dauphine guest house, apart from being great value for money accommodation in Franschhoek, is home to a number of rescue animals. Our 5 rescue chickens provide free range eggs for our wonderful breakfasts. Our 4 resident dogs are all rescue animals with sad stories who have now found heaven on earth. The Franschhoek Tatler, July 2010 reports "Rescued donkeys now safe in Franschhoek" For the full report, please read more here.

If you haven't got time to read the full article, a synopsis reads:- "Anne Stone of Auberge La Dauphine guest house went to see a family of five donkeys in appalling conditions on a wine estate in the Paarl area. The farm owner was contacted and he agreed to the removal of the three older donkeys, but he wanted to keep the two foals as an attraction. After further negotiation the owner eventually agreed to sign over all the donkeys to the MacGregor Donkey Sanctuary. Anne Stone and a team of volunteers arranged two horseboxes, and with some difficulty, the five bedraggled little creatures were removed to temporary accommodation in Franschhoek. Anne and other locals are tending to the donkeys on a daily basis - grooming, feeding, giving medication and lots of love.
